How to Save Money When Hosting a Party
Americans plan to spend an average of $81 each on Super Bowl festivities this year. That is a healthy chunk out of a discretionary monthly budget.
With the big game only a few days away, now is the time to put your party plans together! And if you are like Kemberley Washington of the AICPA Consumer Financial Education Advocates, you want to make certain you have a great party without breaking the bank!
Here are 4 tips from Kemberley to help Americans cut costs but not fun!
#1 Create a limit
Of course, you can buy this and that, but before spending a penny - take time to create a limit. Get an idea of how much you want to spend for the big party. Having an amount in mind can help you decide what you should or better yet, should not purchase! Not only should you consider creating an overall limit, but place a limit on individual items on your list as well. This can ensure you don’t overspend for the big game!
#2 Partner up!
Hey, you don’t have to go at this alone. Is there someone on your invitation list that may also be a great host? Remember, two are better than one! Consider partnering with that person! Have the conversation. Or better yet, take it a step further and consider splitting the cost with a group of friends. Consider using mobile payment apps like PayPal, Venmo or Zelle to share costs between your other hosts.
#3 Take inventory
Before heading out to the store, take inventory! Get an idea of what items you have on hand that you can use for the big game. Whether its paper products, snacks, serving bowls or other items, get an idea of items that you can use before heading out to the store!
#4 Pizza goes a long way
Think pizza! When it comes to the Super Bowl, there is no better way to feed a lot of guests! Not only is pizza a great food item for the big game, but it can go a very long way. Consider making your own - which is super easy! Not sure, where to start? Check out my recipe “WhoDat" Creole Shrimp and Sausage Pizza -- winner of Rachael Ray’s 2018 Fantasy Foodball Competition!
