Never buy new. Online stores offer "used" books that are good as new. Just make sure you are still saving once shipping costs are factored in.

Yet another tip that wastes money. Never pay for shipping!
Go to a brick and mortar used book store. Pick one that lets you sell books back for store credit. Then you read your books, return them, and get a bargain on "new" books.
The selection isn't as good, but you also reduce the clutter in your home.
