If you have to go to the coffee shop, order the cheap stuff. Then spike it with milk, ground cinnamon, and cocoa. It will taste great and save you 50% - in itself a good chunk of change.

Some coffee shops offer discounts for bringing back the hot sleeves from the cups.
Light roast coffee has more caffiene than espresso (which has the least).
If you want a creamy drink that's cheaper than a latte go for a cafè au lait (pronnounced caf-ay o-lay). It's three fourths light coffee (most caffeine) flavoring if your want, and steamed milk.
