Saving Money on Your Garbage Bill
Here is a great tip to help save you money on your garbage bill.
Probably the biggest thing and probably the smelliest in the garbage is old food. One way to help but down on the amount of trash is to install a garbage disposal in your kitchen sink. They even make one that is friendly to septic systems. The better ones will even take bones. These devices are especially great when it comes time to clean out the fridge and get rid of the spoiled food.
These devices take the food and grind it up. The water then washes the food down through the sewage system. One word of advice, unless you know what you are doing, hire a professional to intstall it because it needs to connect to the drain system. It also has an electric line to run the grinding motor. Most garbage disposals also have a connection for the dishwasher drain. These devices are more sanitary because it keeps the food out of the land fills. They also save you money because you don't have to go through as many garbage bags. Not only that, by putting the old food down the drain, the food won't be around to stink up your house. You proably won't have as many rodents going through your trash either. You may not know this. Most sewage treatment plants sell the solid waste after its been treated to farmers to use a fertalizer in thier fields.
Another way to save on your garbage bills, save the plastic containers, such as empty butter containers. These containers work well for saving leftovers. This saves you money because you won't have to constantly buy those disposable Ziplock containers, or as much tuperware. I use these containers from butter, cottage cheese and other such containers. When they do get bad, broken, or cracked then throw them away. Most of them are able to go in the microwave without a problem also.

I appreciate the comments but here we have a set garbage rate, no matter how little or much garbage we put out. However when possible, instead of the garbage disposal set up a compost bin to produce compost. Don't have a garden, provide the results to the local co-op gardening center or donate to neighbor who does garden.
