Protecting Your Identity Could Save You Money, BIGTIME!
Here are a few tip to help you protect your identity. Protecting your identity could save you lots of money.
Buy yourself a paper shreader before putting your mail out in the garbage.
Shreading any papers with your important information on them before putting them out in the trash will help to prevent burglers from getting you identity out of the trash. I myself have seen garbage men at times going through garbage bags seeing what was in them. When you by a paper shreader, make sure it makes the pieces as small as possible. The smaller the pieces are, the harder it will be to put them together again. They make shreadders that make strips. Others called cross cut shreadders make the pieces smaller. There are diamond cut type shredders. When the paper goes through, it makes little diamonds out of the paper which makes it harder to put the pieces bak together. Then there are shredders that make confetti out of the paper. This type is the most secure type of shredder. When purchasing a shredder, make sure it can also handle things like CD's, and credit cards. Some of the better shreaders will shread an entire envelope at one time, including and staples and paper clips that are inside. I shread all papers before they go out in the garbage. It doesn't matter if it has any information on it or not. The more kinds of paper you shread, the more mixed up the pieces will be. If I have a lot of shreadding to do, every once in a while, I pull the bin out and stir the paper around to better mix the pieces which makes it even harder to put the pieces together again.
Another thing to do if its allowed in your community is to burn your important papers you want to get rid of.
Save any important information on your computer on removabnle disks.
Any time you have important information that is saved on your computer, it is at risk of a hacker being able to get it. By saving the information on a removable disk such as a CD or 3.5 floppy will make it harder for anyone on the internet to steal because the information won't be on the hard drive to find. I never save anything that identifies who I am on my hard drive. All that kind of stuff is on a removable disk.
DO NOT leave anything with you identity in your vehicle.
Leaving things in your vehicle is probably the easiest way for someone to steal your identity. Even your regestration and insurance cards are possible ways for someone to get your identity. If you must keep things like this in your vehicle, put in in something that can be locked such as the glove box or anything else that is attached to your vehicle that can be locked.
Important papers in your home.
You should buy yourself a safe and secure it to the floor, a shelf, or in the wall. Put all papers with important information on them into it. Don't leave them laying around no matter how insignificant it may seem. Even the smallest piece of paper with your name and address on it is a way for someone to steal your identity costing you money.
If someone steals your identity, it can cost you more money to fix all the problems. Spending money on a safe, paper shredder and not leaving important papers in your vehicle will save you lots of money in the long run because doing these things will help prevent someone form stealing you identity and running your namethrough the mud.
I hope these things will help you to save money by making it harder for someone to steal your identity. Doing these things will prevent a burlger from stealing your important papers that have your information on them.

One thing I forgot to mention
I forgot to mention this. If you use a computer, one thing to help protact you is to allow your computer to update its programs when needed. Most windows operating systems have an automatic update system if activated. I activate it, click on Start, point to All Programs, then click on Windows Update. Follow the directions given and download anything it tells you to. It will probably have you upgrade to the Microsoft Update program. When it comes to it, it as 2 buttons to click on, Express, and Custom. I usually click on the custom button because there are some updates you can only get from this button. The custom button will show you everything, including all critical updates. A lot of the critical updates are updates to fix security problems in the windows operating system. Any time there is a security update, install it. They are designed to plug up flaws in the system. Depending on how many updates you need to get caught up, after you are caught up and the automatic updates are turned on, your computer will download any critical updates automatically. Watch the task bar. If you see a yellow shield, the computer is being updated. Most times after it downloads, you have to click on the shield to install the update. Keep in mind, some of these updates require you to restart you computer for them to take affect. Even though you automatic updates are turned on, make sure you check back at least once a month to make sure there are no optional updates. Sometimes security updates show up under the optional things.
